Causes of Bacterial Vaginosis
A lot is still unknown about Bacterial Vaginosis. The exact causes of bacterial vaginosis are still not understood by doctors, but the manner in which the infection occurs is known. Bacterial vaginosis occurs when excess bad bacteria, primarily gardnerella, grows in the vagina. The cause of this excess growth is due to the pH level in the vagina becoming more acidic. Bacteria thrives in such environments. When the bad bacterial essentially outnumbers the good bacterial, then your body is not able to fight against it effectively. Because this is known, what can be determined are the likely causes of bacterial vaginosis.
Douching
Douching is rather common among women, and therefore is thought to be one of the most common causes of bacterial vaginosis. When done periodically, it can really cause problems. Excess douching causes bacterial vaginosis because the inside of the vagina can become very aggravated. The infection can even advance to the fallopian tubes. If this occurs, then your problem will be that much worse. Irritation can also be caused by using perfume or scented douches.
Excess Washing
Your vagina contains bacteria/microorganisms that will help clean the vagina naturally. This good bacteria however can be killed off when using antibacterial soaps or over washing.
Multiple Sex Partners
While bacterial vaginosis is not a STD, there is evidence that having sex with someone for the first time or with several different partners could be a cause of bacterial vaginosis. When the vagina is exposed to something new, it can lead to irritation. This includes condoms, tampons, soaps, and so on.
Diet/Exercise Changes
The body is impacted by changes to exercise or diet. The immune system sometimes is not as strong when these changes are occurring, which means that the possibility of getting a disease or infection is more likely.
Another possible cause of bacterial vaginosis includes wearing one tampon, pad, or panty liner for too long. This allows for bacteria to accumulate, which of course creates the environment suited for bacterial vaginosis.
BV Treatment
Bacterial vaginosis is generally treated by doctors with the use of antibiotics. While they maybe effective for a little while, the problem is they don’t attack the root cause of the condition. They actually kill off the good bacteria, such as lactobacilli, in addition to the bad bacteria.
When antibiotics are used, the chances of it coming back in several weeks is very likely. Using natural treatments for bacterial vaginosis is the most effective way to rid of this condition.
